Connie Scheidt

Hello, my name is Connie Scheidt (pounced Shy’d) and I would like to introduce myself as your AlphaNet Coordinator.

I live in Michigan and have 3 children and 3 grandchildren who are the love of my life.

I was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency in 2014. I am a ZZ Alpha and was glad I finally had a diagnosis that would explain what had been plaguing me all these years.

I have an administrative background in the medical field and worked as a physician receptionist, pediatric ER room assist, and even developed X-rays from time to time. The knowledge from that employment seemed to help me grasp my diagnosis and I had a good idea of what I needed to do to maintain my health.

At the time of my diagnosis, I was employed in the hospitality industry and enjoyed what I did. My symptoms seemed to worsen during this time, and I didn’t know what to do or which way to turn. That’s when I heard from AlphaNet and that’s when things changed for me. Having an AlphaNet Coordinator that understood what I was going through meant a lot. I felt safe sharing information about me and never felt judged. The information and resources provided to me were always helpful and right on point.

I want to welcome you to the AlphaNet community and family. I look forward to speaking with you and learning from each other through conversation. Laughter, I feel, is great medicine and I look forward to having a chuckle or two during our Alpha-1 journey. Being able to communicate openly and honestly with one another, where I can honestly say, “I totally get it” is invaluable!
