Daniel Grimm

Hello, my name is Dan Grimm and I would like to introduce myself as your AlphaNet Coordinator.

I live in Clarence NY, just outside of Buffalo with my wife Deborah and our daughters, Danielle and Noelle. I also have a step daughter, Lauren, who with her husband Steve and daughter Avery, live in San Diego, CA.   I enjoy golfing, kayaking, music and travel, and am a lifelong fan of the Buffalo sports teams.

I have recently retired after being a commercial truck driver for last forty-one years.  I worked both over the road and locally.  Customer service has always been a primary focus of mine and I truly enjoyed dealing with my clients.

In 1991, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and am happy to say that in 2012 they confirmed I am cancer free and a cancer survivor.  From this diagnosis and successful outcome, I take my health care very seriously and was encouraged to continue with my positive attitude.

During my adult years, I noticed shortness of breath while at work and was diagnosed as being an asthmatic. In March 2016, my primary physician tested me for Alpha-1 after learning about it from a Nurse Practitioner who presented her thesis on Alpha-1.  The result of that test was that I was a “ZZ Phenotype”: Alpha 1 Antitrypsin deficiency.  From that test result, I was referred to a pulmonologist who was well versed in Alpha-1 and I started augmentation therapy in August of 2016.

I feel very lucky to have AlphaNet as part of my health care team. My coordinators did such a good job of educating me and helping me realize I could still lead a productive, enjoyable and fulfilling life. This has made the diagnoses, treatment and follow up a very positive aspect of my life.
