Terri Schroth

Hi, my name is Terri Schroth and I would like to introduce myself as your AlphaNet Coordinator.

I was born, raised, and reside in Northeast Iowa with my husband Jeremiah and our two wonderful rescue dogs. We have one son, a daughter-in-law, and two grandsons. I have worked in customer service in one form or another for over 20 years and I have a passion for helping people. I enjoy woodworking, gardening, hiking, the outdoors in general, and traveling.

I first learned about Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency in the 1990s when my oldest brother was diagnosed. At that time, it was not recommended for any of our family to be tested. In 2016, after quitting smoking, I self-advocated to get tested. My physician finally tested both my serum level and phenotype. I did my first lung function test shortly thereafter. I signed up for a study on COPD from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and found out via genotyping that I have a rare allele. As a result of this finding, there are still a lot of unknowns for me. I began augmentation therapy treatment in 2020.
